The ARC-Plant Health and Protection seeks to appoint highly skilled, experienced and dynamic persons to the following position at the ARC-Plant Health and Protection, Roodeplaat
Job Description
  • Assist with mass-rearing of multiple biocontrol agents (insects) on weeds (invasive alien plants).
  • Maintenance of plant cultures (propagation, watering, application of fertilizers, pruning, weed- and pest-control).
  • Reporting on maintenance issues such as irrigation and general structural maintenance.
  • Other basic daily activities as per instruction and training.
  • Harvesting and packaging of biocontrol agents in preparation for releases.
  • General upkeep (cleaning) of the facility and tools.
  • Occasionally participate in field trips in and outside the province for monitoring and evaluation, as well as releases of biocontrol agents.
Job Requirements
  • National Diploma in plant production or related fields.
  • Involvement with some plant care activity, some nursery/gardening experience will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to work in a team and on own.
  • Ability to undertake tasks without micro-supervision.
  • Ability for physical work (under sometimes uncomfortable conditions), with occasional extended hours if required during field work.
  • Basic PPE adherence.
  • Manage project facilities, material and equipment and ensures optimal utilization of resources.
  • Code B/EB driver’s license.
