The ARC- Vegetable, Industrial and Medicinal Plants (ARC-VIMP) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced, and dynamic person to the following position at Roodeplaat, Pretoria.
Job Description
  • Assists technicians and researchers with the implementation of plant breeding related field and greenhouse trials, trial monitoring and data collection.
  • Assists with seed harvesting, cleaning, sorting and storage.
  • Assists in coordinating of work activities and supervises allocated resources.
  • Adheres to work plans and timeously provide verbal and written feedback on work activities and challenges encountered to supervisor.
  • Provides general research support.
Job Requirements
  •  Grade 12 with 3 years relevant experience in Plant Breeding or Agronomy, or Grade 10 plus 5 years’ relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience in cultivation and maintenance of vegetable crops, including land preparations, planting, weeding, harvesting, fertilizer applications and irrigation set-up.
  • Relevant experience in greenhouse sanitation practices, growth media preparations and seedling/plantlet production.
  • Effective utilization of tools implements and research materials.
  • Perform soil and water sample collection, and data collection under supervision.
  • Competence in driving a tractor will be an added advantage.
  • Competence in herbicide and pesticide applications will be an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Valid driver’s license will be an added advantage.
